In a new study in Nature Communications Earth and Environment, Singha Roy et al. [2025] uses the atmospheric carbon dioxide column observations from OCO to unravel the response of the Indian land biosphere to global climatic phenomena such as El Niño-Southern Oscillation and Indian Ocean Dipole. The study involved a whole host of OCO Science Team members and finds that over the Indian subcontinent, large GPP variations, as compared to total ecosystem respiration, determine the response of carbon fluxes to climatic phenomena.
